Our History

Steven and Mary Huizenga have owned the popular store since they first opened their doors in 1982 and continue to be voted the #1 Reader's Choice by local newspaper readers year after year.  It was the desire to "do it right" that launched Steve into owning his own jewelry store.  He began his career working for a chain jeweler, and stayed with them for nearly a dozen years until he realized that customers were not getting the true personal attention they deserved.  He felt that corporate concern for the bottom line was superseding his drive for total customer satisfaction.  That's when he elected to step out onto his own and begin the Jewelfire story.   Now over 30 years later, Jewelfire is deep in experienced staff members focused on customer service.  Chris and Shawn each bring over 35 years experience in the jewelry business to the customer counter.  As a team they are well versed in custom design, fair appraisals, and jewelry repair.

The Jewelfire reputation far exceeds the boundaries of the local community, with major jewelry vendors and goldsmiths from New York to Chicago routinely encouraging them to add large quantities of quality merchandise into their mix.  The Huizengas, however, prefer to scrutinize and hand-select each and every piece that is placed into their inventory, to assure both them and you that you will have no problems with your purchase.  That same reputation has provided them outstanding buying power, allowing them to bring major market items to the local scene at a fraction of the cost you might otherwise expect.  As we all know, the price of gold has been sky-rocketing, and yet, Jewelfire's gold reserves were purchased well below today's gold prices, and that's the way they are selling it too.  They refuse to raise the price simply to capitalize on that gap.
